Description
The original Amber Room, an exquisite chamber made of carved pine tree resin, shimmering gold and mosaics of precious metals, was commmissioned in 1716 by Frederick I of Prussia as an extraordinary gift for Peter the Great...Once considered the 8th wonder of the world, the Amber Room was a masterpiece of Baroque excess. Yet it also remains one of the world's most mysterious treasures....It decorated the Catherine Palance near St. Petersburg until In September 1941, German troops invaded...By the time the Soviet army recaptured the City, all traces of the Amber Room had vanished.
