As the days grow colder and shorter, many of us warm our thoughts with the joy of family and the holidays. Unfortunately, for those families in our community struggling to make ends meet, this can be a worrisome time. Without the help of caring community members these families are challenged to meet their basic needs and may go without enough food and warm winter clothing, let alone toys or other holiday gifts.
You can “Be the difference†this winter by adopting a family in need. The Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County in partnership with 22 fellow non-profits invites individuals, families, businesses, clubs, or churches to open their hearts and adopt one of the 450 families.
There are number of ways to support the program:
• Call the adoption line to select a family. Family packages include food gift certificates, clothing for the children and adults, a small toy for each child, and may include household items like blankets, towels, or sheets.
• Make individual contributions of items, gift certificates or cash that will be blended with others to complete a family package. Donations can be made online at
https://www.scvolunteercenter.org or can be mailed to the Volunteer Center at 1740 17th Ave, Santa Cruz, CA. 95062.
•Volunteer for the project- Individuals and groups can register for a variety of volunteer positions online at

Volunteers will be at the Adopt a Family Phone Line now through Dec 16th from 10-4PM Monday through Friday in Santa Cruz and 10-2PM Monday- Thursday in Watsonville.
