Description San Francisco Pride Celebration Saturday, June 28th (12-6pm) – Civic Center Sunday, June 29th (10:30am-12pm) - Parade along Market Street Sunday, June 29th, 2008 (12-7pm) – Civic Center With over 200 parade contingents, 300 exhibitors, and 19 stages and venues, the San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration and Parade is the largest LGBT gathering in the nation. The two-day event is packed with a wide variety of vendors, artists, music in a variety of genres, performers, dance stages and venues, and fun. There really is something here for everyone. The Celebration at Civic Center is also host to our Main Stage. In previous years, world famous acts such as En Vogue, Crystal Waters, Lisa Lisa, the B-52's, Chaka Khan, and Third Eye Blind have played. This year on Pride Sunday, SF Pride is excited to feature the best of local entertainment from the Bay Area and great cutting-edge acts, including headliners Crystal Waters, Inaya Day, and Kat Deluna. On Pride Saturday, Main Stage offers a unique day of programming, featuring exciting cultural offerings and a great chance to have a picnic on Civic Center Plaza while enjoying exceptional entertainment including Saturday headliner Meshell Ndegeocello. Our Latin Stage with the best national and international performances taking place on our community stages - our third year stages include the Trans Stage and Homo Hip Hop - as well as our veteran stages, the Asian and Pacific Islander Stage, NectArena Women's Stage, Soul of Pride African American Stage, Latin stage and more! We also have gathering spaces for the Clean & Sober community, kids, elders, and the Deaf & hard-of-hearing. GENERAL INFORMATION THEME: The 2008 San Francisco Pride Theme is, "United by Pride, Bound for Equality." The San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration Committee is proud to announce the theme for the 2008 San Francisco Pride Celebration and Parade: United by Pride, Bound for Equality The 2008 theme was selected from a list of 40 potential competitors by the General Membership of the Pride Celebration Committee at their Annual General Meeting held at the Hotel Whitcomb, an SF Pride sponsor hotel, on September 16, 2007. In debating the potential themes, the membership expressed a desire to think forward toward 2008 as an election year and to select a theme which reflected both the historical role of San Francisco Pride within the LGBT civil rights movement and the importance of asserting a political stance in favor of full equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. San Francisco Pride’s Grand Marshals are the public emissaries of Pride. They represent a mix of individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the LGBT community. With the help of community input, Pride selects these groups and individuals as Grand Marshals in order to honor the work they have put into furthering the causes of LGBT peoples. GRAND MARSHALS: San Francisco Pride recognizes community leaders and one infamous detractor in the following categories: Individual Community Grand Marshals, Organizational Grand Marshal, the Pink Brick Recipient, and Celebrity Grand Marshals. This year's Celebrity Grand Marshals will be Cyndi Lauper and Charo. The Mission of the San Francisco Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride Celebration Committee is to educate the World, commemorate our heritage, celebrate our culture, and liberate our people.
