"An astute and expressive singer."
Nate Chinen, New York Times Critics Pick

“She makes her audiences feel as though they’ve just experienced something very special.”
Kirk Silsbee, Los Angeles Times

Downbeat Critics Poll ‘Rising Star’, Tessa Souter, has a unique style, which combines influences from North Africa, Spain and the Middle East. Don Heckman, in a Los Angeles Times rave review of her California debut entitled "An unsigned standout in a crowded field" said, "unlike many of her contemporaries, she seems more focused on exploring the limitless creativity of the art than simply having another go at the American Songbook." Since then, Ms. Souter has made four albums - including her most recent, Beyond the Blue, which features jazz interpretations of classical repertoire with her own “exhilaratingly mature lyrics.” (Neil Tesser, Chicago Examiner), and which was #6 on the London Sunday Times' Top Ten Best Jazz Releases of 2013. She has performed all over the world, including four sold out tours of the Russian philharmonic halls and five sold out appearances at the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival, the most recent of which was filmed by PBS and is currently being broadcast nationally across the PBS networks. She has sold out out multiple concerts at Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, the Blue Note, and Joe’s Pub, among other New York clubs. Her frequently standing-room-only residency at Greenwich Village’s iconic 55 Bar is in its 13th year. "Best of all, she delivers it with a wit and a wink worthy of the toniest joints in town." Time Out New York. “A very special talent. A natural born singer.” – NEA Jazz Master Sheila Jordan.
