Teaching language to children with autism- the verbal behavior approach

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Sobrato Center for Nonprofits - Redwood Shores (see times)
What is the Verbal Behavior approach?

Functional language is the foundation that supports the development of skills in all areas. Verbal Behavior Therapy teaches language using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. This approach motivates children to:

learn language by connecting words with their purposes
understand why we use words and how to communicate ideas
focus on the function of language, not just the form/length of sentences
acquire a more complete language repertoire

Deborah Van Tuyl MA, BCBA is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst with more than fifteen years of experience in the implementation of evidence-based practices and strategies including applied behavior analysis, naturalistic learning approaches, incidental teaching, assistive technology, and social skills training to bring about positive, measurable changes in children and young adults with autism spectrum disorder and other related disabilities.

She is currently a Clinical Director at Ed Support Services overseeing home, school, and community based ABA programs for children ages 2-18.

Who should attend: Parents, teachers, therapists, psychologists, caregivers, and anyone with an interest in autism are invited to attend
