Eldest son of celebrated singer Bobby McFerrin, Taylor McFerrin is a cutting edge DJ, producer, keyboardist, beatboxer, and composer. Influenced by 70s soul, jazz fusion, and electronic music, McFerrin has come so far since his recorded debut as an infant on his father’s self-titled 1982 album, performing alongside his Soulquarian idols The Roots, Erykah Badu, and Talib Kweli, as well as jazz crossover stars Robert Glasper and José James. McFerrin’s 2008 EP, Broken Vibes, established his unique, soulful aesthetic with an evocative mix of vocal beats, electric piano, synthesizers, and voice. On the heels of his Ninja Tune single, “Place in My Heart,” the multi-instrumentalist released his debut full-length album, Early Riser, on superstar producer Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label. The album is a tour-de-force, combining deep grooves and densely layered soundscaping with guest appearances by Glasper, Brazilian piano giant César Carmargo Mariano, bass master Thundercat, vocalists Nai Palm and Emily King, as well as McFerrin’s famous father.
