THIS EVENT HAS ENDED
Creativity Explored, the premier nonprofit visual art gallery and studio for artists with developmental disabilities, is presenting Tabula Rasa, on view March 3 through April 31, 2016. In Tabula Rasa, the Creativity Explored gallery will serve as an expansion of the art studio during this six-week-long interactive project. See the gallery transform into an active art-making space as artists, art instructors, and possibly even visitors create two and three-dimensional artworks in the space traditionally reserved for “finished” work.

In Tabula Rasa, the gallery itself will become a blank canvas in which artists are invited
to work. Curator of Tabula Rasa and Studio and Visual Art Instructor Paul Moshammer invites studio artists to draw and sculpt in the gallery creating an additional studio space for the course of the exhibition. This environment will remove the barrier between the gallery and studio, providing the viewer with a more direct interaction with Creativity Explored artmaking activities.

Participating artists will work in a variety of media for primarily large-scale pieces. Joseph “J.D.” Green, Vincent Jackson, and Gerald Wiggins will create large-scale black ink drawings. Working in papier-mâché, Ricardo Estella will craft a dinosaur while Andrew Bixler creates a large-scale sculpture. Taneya Lovelace, Jose Nunez and Marcus McClure are opting to work on large paintings while Hector Lopez will construct a large version of his signature cardboard houses.

Due to the experimental format of this exhibition, the reception will be on Thursday, March 31, 2016, 7 to 9 pm, to showcase the art created during the earlier exhibition period.
