Make no bones about it: Austin's Susanne Abbott is an intense, highly evocative singer-songwriter, particularly in terms of her singing, which borders on operatic at times, though generally stays closer to soul and roots. As a songwriter, she creates very textured, serious songs that span the traditions of blues, folk, roots and pop. But regardless of style, she sings from her soul, way deep down, with no frills, and just honest emotions. It's hypnotic. Her 2010 album No History of Prevention lingers in the listener's heart. In addition to her own music, she also acts in live theater. She's performed in productions of Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Speeding Motorcycle (A Daniel Johnston based musical).
