Supersonic Bing Thing

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Stanford's Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics--better known as CCRMA, or "karma"--is presenting a pair of boundary-pushing concerts. Hosted in the state-of-the-art Bing Concert Hall on the Stanford campus, the event will feature two concerts of 3D audio. The multi-channel technology makes Dolby Surround Sound feel like plain old stereo, as sounds swirl around the audience and arch overhead. Highlights from Friday's program include Michael McNabb's early computer music piece "Love in the Asylum." On Saturday, the audience will experience the 3D "ambisonic" piece "The Hidden and Mysterious Machinery of Sound," by Fernando Lopez-Lezcano. This is what the future sounds like.
