SUPER BLUEGRASS WEEKEND: vol 8
The official unofficial Hardly Strictly Bluegrass After Party!

Big Jugs + Deep Chatham + Steep Ravine

Doors open at 8:30 / show at 9pm / limited seated / get there early!

BIG JUGS (Santa Barbara) Sometimes controversial, sometimes semi-offensive, but always humorous and not afraid to say it: They love big jugs. The boys of Big Jugs love a number of other things, too, but due to strict codes of ethics, those things can’t be listed here. Nevertheless, their special brand of alt-bluegrass ain't no novelty act, it's honest-to-goodness goodness.

DEEP CHATHAM (NC)
Deep Chatham was formed by guitarist Julian Sikes and upright bassist Jeff Loops, two ferociously talented songwriters. The duo crafted a heavy handful of original songs characterized by driving
rhythms, intricate harmonies, and haunting melodies and immediately took their act on the road. After touring for a year or so they crossed paths with gifted fiddle and banjo player Matt Heckler who they recruited and set forth as a power trio. The trio recently picked up long-time friend and musical partner, Trevor Grassi, on the piano and accordion. With this new musical accompaniment, the four entered the studio to create their second full-length album- Flood debuted in March, 2013.

STEEP RAVINE (Santa Cruz)
Part bluegrass, folk, and gypsy jazz, this quartet are noted for their dynamic acoustic sound, original songwriting, close vocal harmonies, and string-playing virtuosity. Steep Ravine draws their influences from far and wide, including Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, Tony Rice, David Grisman, Neil Young, Django Reinhardt, and Stephane Grappelli to name a few. The band’s collective abilities cross multiple musical genres, bringing a fresh, distinctive sound to original tunes and arrangements alike.
