The very first Sunday Streets Berkeley takes place Sunday October 14, 2012, 11am - 4pm along Shattuck Ave from Haste St. to Rose St.
Cycle, stroll, skate, dance, and play in the open streets! The streets will be car-free and extremely people-friendly. Experience the streets in a whole new way. Explore over a mile of community-led fun in an exciting public space. Travel from a entirely pedestrian Downtown Berkeley to North Berkeley's Gourmet Ghetto all by bike or on foot. Participate in classes and other activities. Connect with friends new and old.
What happens when the streets are closed to car traffic and open for the people? We shall see how the community gets creative with this new public space . . .
Free activities and performances in the streets will include: pedal-powered music with Rock the Bike, bike rodeo, and bike repair, Brazilian drumming, Balkan and Middle Eastern music and dance, bluegrass and old-time music, comedy, climbing walls, yoga classes, capoeira, rumba, dodgeball, games, Bboy Dancing, and much more!
