Exhibition Dates: August 17 – October 4, 2013
Opening Reception: Saturday August 17, 5:00–7:00 pm

Gallerie Citi is extremely proud to present STORYTELLERS, an exhibition of artwork with a narrative thread in a variety of media by five Gallerie Citi artists, including Elaine Badgley Arnoux, Elizabeth Barlow, Heather Capen, Nina Dietzel, and Willard Dixon.

Elaine Badgley Arnoux’s autobiographical oil painting series, “Once Upon a Time,” examines the state of the world with inspiration from by her childhood Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes.

In the spirit of the great portraiture tradition, but deviating from its usual approach, Elizabeth Barlow creates oil paintings of people using their belongings, rather than their faces. In “Portraits in Absentia,” she uses shoes to represent the person who wears them, because the deep emotional content inherent in these very personal objects provides rich opportunities for storytelling.

New oil paintings by Heather Capen reveal her interest in the built environment and the interplay between city life, nature, and infrastructure. Responding to San Francisco and Bay Area sites that otherwise might be overlooked, Capen’s paintings reflect upon the underlying beauty of the places we see… and often don’t see.

We are pleased to introduce artist Nina Dietzel with a selection from her veracious and contemporary “Geister” photography series, in which she examines the ghostly grace of the Mothball Fleet— a floating cemetery of abandoned Navy, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine ships near San Francisco—plus a selection from her poetically paired Parisian portraits that tell new stories from "La Ville-Lumière" ("The City of Light").

Finally, we are overjoyed to premiere new urban scenes by Willard Dixon, where the artist steps away from the stillness of the countryside and into the heart of the city, with its barrage of noises, instructions to move, and calls to consume.
