Don't miss internationally-renowned Storyteller Diane Ferlatte, accompanied by musician Eric Pearson as she shares her autobiographical spoken-word piece, “Penny for Your Thoughts.”
Ferlatte will perform her stories of breaking down walls and building bridges between races and cultures. Diane says, “These are stories from experiences in my life. They reflect the beauty of friendship, the character of courage, and how one's reactions to racial, cultural, & generational barriers or conflicts can transform the outcome & may even transform the participants.” The stories blend humor and poignancy into an experience that Ferlatte says will leave the audience both laughing and crying at the same time. To give a glimpse at what the performance holds in store, Ferlatte likes to share two of her favorite proverbs, “talking with one another is loving one another,” and “a stranger is just a friend you haven’t met yet.”
Diane Ferlatte grew up in New Orleans, and can still remember years of sitting on her grandparents’ porch, captivated by the oral stories of family generations past, their spirit, their journeys, and their heartfelt fantasy becoming more alive in each moment. Now living in Oakland, she is an award-winning storyteller who has spent decades traveling the world and sharing stories with audiences large and small. Her high-profile performances have included appearances for the Kennedy Center, the National Storytelling Festival, the Bay Area Storytelling Festival, and for President Bill Clinton’s first inauguration.
Storyteller Diane Ferlatte’s performance of “Penny for Your Thoughts” is free to the public, and is supported by the Friends of the Menlo Park Library. No preregistration is necessary to attend. The performance is geared toward adults; it is suggested that the minimum age for a youth attending be 11 years old.
