STILL LIFE DANCES is a series of movement studies based on still life paintings from the deYoung Museum’s permanent collection. These dances are inspired by the concept, composition, and careful detail found in early American still life and trompe l'oeil paintings. To much acclaim and enthusiasm, Simpson/Stulberg have created and performed three Still Life Dances all around the Bay Area over the past year. This performance will be the fourth in the series, but the first ever evening length Still Life Dance. It will expand upon Simpson/Stulberg’s signature style, characterized by speed, gesture, attention to detail, and careful composition, but it will be further developed into a longer work including an original set, sound score, lighting design, and performance by veteran dancers Arletta Anderson, Virginia Broyles, Liane Burns, and Jenny Stulberg.
60 minutes, no intermission.
