Description
PG-13 | 01:51 | Drama

This critically acclaimed drama features a tour-de-force performance by Frank Langella as Leonard Schiller, a New York writer entering old age but unable to finish the novel he has been working on for 10 years. Enter attractive 20-ish grad student Heather Wolfe (Lauren Ambrose), who asks to interview him for her thesis. Their conversations lead to a complex, nuanced, and poignant connection and Schiller’s re-engagement with a world he has withdrawn from. The film also traces Schiller’s relationship with his grown daughter, Ariel (Lili Taylor), a former ballet dancer who loves her father deeply but is perplexed by his new friendship. Director Andrew Wagner shot this adaptation of Brian Morton’s novel on a minimal budget in several weeks, but its unpretentious intelligence, heartfelt emotional power, and the superbly introspective, deeply moving performances of Langella, Taylor and Ambrose will stay with you longer than a raft of big-budget star vehicles.
