Karen GaBay is retiring after dancing at Ballet San Jose for 34 years.The company and staff will celebrate this amazing dancing career GaBay has had at the ballet.
The program will consist of:
2-2 TANGO
Choreography: Karen Gabay
Composers: Various
Music: Eleven different Tangos
This ballet for 22 dancers features a closing pas de deux that will
reunite Karen Gabay and BSJ Principal Ballet Master Raymond Rodriguez.
Their partnership began in 1982.
AMOUR DE GITAN
(Gypsy Love)
Choreography: Karen Gabay
Composer: Maurice Ravel
Music: Tzigane
Soloists: Special musical guest artists, Violinist Lev Polyakin and
Pianist George Lopez
Costumes: David Guthrie
This pas de deux was Gabay's first collaboration with Lev Polyakin, for a
1998 concert entitled, Pointe of Departure, which Gabay and Raymond
Rodriguez took as the name of their new ballet company in 2000. Ballet San
Jose Principal Dancer Maykel Solas partners Gabay in Amour de Gitan.
THE NUTCRACKER Grand Pas De Duex
Choreography: Karen Gabay
Composer: Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Music: The Nutcracker, Act II
Karen Gabay will dance portions of the Adagio, from the Grande Pas de
Deux, (The Nutcracker, Act II) with each of the seven different partners
in the company that have shared the stage with her in past performances:
Maximo Califano, Rudy Candia, Jeremy Kovitch, Ramon Moreno, Anton
Pankevitch, Raymond Rodriguez and Maykel Solas.
A video montage of Karen's work with Ballet San Jose and special tribute
and remembrances will also be a part of this special program.
