Indian Kathak and American Tap come together in the West Coast debut of a riveting new work from Rina Mehta and Rachna Nivas as well as Michelle Dorrance and Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards in a piece that renews, reinvents and continues a conversation between the two art forms that began with the legendary collaboration between Pandit Chitresh Das and Jason Samuels Smith.
The genesis for SPEAK began with conversations between the four principals in 2013, each of whom will bring their own particular mastery and obsession with their craft to the Z Space stage as a group for the first time. After San Francisco, there are plans to tour the piece to other cities.
