Songwriters in the Round, v.11.0, returns to Bazaar Cafe, and will feature Essence and Donovan Plant.
We'll be playing this show in the round, no sets, just us, the artists and our instruments, taking turns playing our songs. So you'll get us together. An Essence, Donovan Plant, and Alex Jimenez playlist. Songwriting stories will probably ensue.

A product of the early San Francisco indie music scene, host Alex Jimenez has spent the majority of his life creating music to share with his fellow musicians and community. An avid guitar player and singer, Alex is currently focusing on his solo work, a blend of acoustic pop meets gritty blues. In 2012/13 his 2 year, fifteen show odyssey, 'The Usual Suspects Songwriter Showcase', was a critical favorite, showcasing some of the Bay Area’s finest talent. Currently, his new EP, ‘Inside’, is being mixed by Ryan Clark, and he is currently writing songs for his next full length album.

A sixth-generation San Francisco native, award winning singer-songwriter Essence has been immersed in art and music since childhood. Since winning the Grand Prize in the National Lilith Fair Talent Search in 1998, Essence has been signed to RCA Records, Way Cool/MCA Records, and Or Music (Los Lonely Boys, Matisyahu). She debuted with the successful indie release 'Conception', which garnered much Bay Area radio airplay and press and established a devoted fan base. Her sophomore release was the critically acclaimed 'Mariposa', followed by 2009's 'Feels Like the Future'. Her latest album, 'A Dog Named Moo', was entirely funded by loyal fans on Kickstarter and was picked up and released by My Kazoo/ Universal Music. It was voted Top Kids Album of the Year by Daily Candy. For Essence, music is much more than creative expression – it’s a spiritual path.

San Francisco bay area native Donovan Plant blends country and rock influences with lyrics inspired by the City. In 2011 he released his first EP, "Be With You" (NiteFlite Music - Germany) which included a video produced by Ricky Kelley. Donovan is currently working on securing outside writer placements and material for a full length album. "Donovan has a very keen ear for hooks, melody, inflection, structure, delivery, and other pop sensibilities, making it so easy to bond with his songs, which wind up being uniquely his own style while keeping a timeless quality." -Brendan Getzell.
