Flaming Lotus Girls Host "Somatic" Art Gallery Benefit
May 2nd, 8pm-2am
SOMArts
934 Brannan Street in San Francisco

Local talent fuses a major exhibit of works with music and drinks to help fund The Flaming Lotus Girls and their upcoming public art installation, SOMA.

The Flaming Lotus Girls art collective is hosting an art show to help raise funds to support the installation of SOMA, a 30+' stainless steel sculpture illuminated with interactive LEDs, at Pier 14 this May. Named in tribute to both the gallery where the show is located as well as the sculpture itself, Somatic will be held Friday, May 2nd, from 8pm-2am at SOMArts, 934 Brannan Street in San Francisco.

The show will feature over 50 high-quality, original pieces, including framed photographic prints, metal transfers, and small-scale models from various artists including Tristan Savatier and Scott London. The art will be sold via silent auction, and the proceeds will go to help fund SOMA's public installation on the waterfront of San Francisco. Music will be provided by Ambient Mafia, and drinks will be available all night. A $10 minimum donation is recommended upon entry of the event.

"We're thrilled to partner with SOMArts to showcase our local talent," said longtime Flaming Lotus Girls member, Jessica Hickok. "We hope that by creating a fun-filled, relaxed atmosphere where people can enjoy the unique visual art of The Flaming Lotus Girls, we can continue to grow and expand that atmosphere into public consciousness on a much larger scale when we actually install SOMA on Pier 14."

If you are unable to attend Somatic, you can still donate here http://somapier14.org/

About SOMA:
Created by San Francisco's own art collective, the Flaming Lotus Girls (FLG), SOMA artistically represents the communication between two neurons, signifying the neuronal flow of electricity that forms the foundation of consciousness from a molecular to a monumental scale. The installation will remain at the Pier 14 Plaza for one year's time, with a stunning backdrop that includes the Bay Lights and the San Francisco waterfront.

About The Flaming Lotus Girls:
The FLG create monumental works of interactive art. Based in San Francisco, the volunteer organization combines sculpture, kinetics, robotics, pyrotechnics, and electronics to inspire and incorporate viewers into the experience of their work.http://www.flaminglotus.com/

About SOMArts:
"Somatic is supported by the SOMArts Cultural Center's Affordable Space Program, which provides subsidized, large-scale affordable space and technical assistance to nonprofits. SOMArts receives support from the San Francisco Arts Commission's Community Arts and Education Program with funding from Grants for the Arts/The Hotel Tax Fund. The mission of SOMArts is to promote and nurture art on the community level and foster an appreciation of and respect for all cultures.
