So You Want to Start a Nonprofit Organization?

SEE EVENT DETAILS
This introductory course will explore the characteristics of effective nonprofits and demonstrate how to potentially transform your idea for a charitable program or service into a fully-fledged organization. We will address such questions as:

What groundwork do I have to have in place before approaching foundations for funding?
What are the steps to obtaining incorporation and nonprofit status, and where can I get some help to do so?
What are the characteristics of successful nonprofits?
Is the nonprofit model really the best fit for me?

About the Speaker:

Ganga Dharmappa is the Regional Training Specialist for Foundation Center, providing outreach and training throughout the Bay Area, statewide, and in the Western United States. For more than a decade, Ganga has led training, capacity-building, and development efforts within the nonprofit sector, and she has worked to increase access and safety for marginalized and underserved communities. Ganga holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Cornell University and a Master of Fine Arts in Writing from the University of San Francisco. She is a short fiction writer and occasional poet. In her spare time, she also works as a Postpartum Doula for newly expanded families.
