Slow Build Joshua Highter at ODC

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Slow Build
Joshua Highter at ODC
May 14 – September 2, 2014
Artist Reception: Friday, May 16th, 5:30 -7 pm
ODC Theater Lobby | 3153 17th Street, SF CA 94110

Root Division is thrilled to partner with our neighbors at ODC by curating the theater lobby with the work of our Studio Artists and Affiliates. This season, we present the abstract paintings of current Studio Artist, Joshua Highter.
Highter’s layered mark making is suggestive of forces of society, economics, technology, and nature on the landscape. The paint surface and the pictorial incidents are in a constant state of transformation affected by daily observations and interactions suggesting constant re-invention and negotiation. Forms are left to float in space, straight lines zig-zag and curve, parts speed up, others slide slowly by, patterns are left un-connected to forms. In these works time and space are not linear.

Josh Highter holds an MFA graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington, and is currently a lecturer teaching drawing and painting at UC Davis.
