If the Slanted Door's posh opening party was any indicator, the permanent location of San Francisco's favorite modern Vietnamese destination is going to do incredibly well in its new bayfront space. Spun from stacked glass, sleek lines and daylight by designer Olle Lundberg, the 150-seat, block C-shaped restaurant features a central kitchen, 20-seat bar, 34-seat cocktail area, see-and-be-seen booths, art-decked walls, and a highly social unisex bathroom area that was the hit of the grand opening festivities.

Fans of the restaurant's Shaking Beef and Daikon Rice Cakes will be pleased as ever with the cooking, as will aficionados of cocktails made with fresh juices and brainy liqueurs like Austrian elderflower essence and Limoncello. The Phan Family plans to offer carry-out to ferry commuters in the near future. The temporary 100 Brannan Street location is closed, and the original Valencia Street location is slated to reopen by 2005 with a menu of Vietnamese street foods.
