Choreographer Amy Lewis has enlisted five Bay Area choreographers she has long admired for their particular styles and abilities to participate in Six Suites. Lewis, Shinichi Iova-Koga, Sonsheree Giles, and Janet Collard will each choreograph to one of the four suites in J.S. Bach's "Six Suites for Unaccompanied Cello." Christy Funsch and Peiling Kao will be collaborating on Suite No. 5 and all six will choreograph different movements for the final sixth suite.
Each of the suites will be accompianed live by a single musician and instrument, with only two being a cello, the instrument Bach originally wrote the suites for. The other instruments are: marimba, guitar, viola and electronics.
