Sidewalk Fine Arts Festival

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Downtown Menlo Park (see times)
The Menlo Park Sidewalk Fine Arts Festival will celebrate spring in downtown Menlo Park on Friday and Saturday, April 19 and 20 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, April 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This annual free family event, sponsored by the Menlo Park Chamber of Commerce, will take place outdoors along tree-lined Santa Cruz Avenue off El Camino Real.

The Menlo Park Sidewalk Fine Arts Festival will feature an exciting array of original works by 90 artists including jewelry, photography, ceramics, painting, sculptures and much more. All of the artists will be on hand to visit with patrons, while some will be practicing their art during the show. This year’s featured artists include:

Francine Fiesel
Studio: Sebastopol
Medium: Freshwater pearls and stones
Her Art: Handcrafted jewelry
Creative Process: As I spread out a variety of stones and pearls on my workbench, the creative process begins. Only by playing with the various pearls and watching the interplay of color, shape and texture, does the piece start to take form. I love to design in color stories, layering shades of color. My designs are clean and elegant, celebrating the distinctive qualities of each pearl and semi-precious stone I use. The creative process does not end with the finished piece of jewelry. For me, the process continues as I work with each woman to find just the right piece to complement her special coloring and style—the piece that reflects her own inner beauty.

Locke Heemstra
Studio: San Mateo
Medium: Giclée photographic prints, which are individually produced, high-resolution prints made using a sophisticated wide format inkjet printer technology.
Art: Locke’s photographic images are printed on large canvas, then cut to size and stretched over 1-1/4" stretcher bars. The 1-1/4 inch edges of the photographic canvases have a unique artistic appearance as the image continues to fold around the sides to the back, eliminating the need for frames or glass.
Creative Process: Locke’s early images focused on the natural wonders of the United States, from the rich fall foliage of New England to the vivid blues and greens of the California coast. In time, he began to concentrate on natural and manmade settings lush with color. The public’s enthusiastic response to the vibrant colors in his work convinced Locke he was on the right path. Next, he decided to combine his love of European culture with his new approach to color. Today, Locke travels to Europe at least three times a year, always searching for that special image that will give the viewer a sense of place.

Jeff Davison
Studio: Huntington Beach, California
Medium: Wood
His Art: Natural edge bowls made from local trees from southern California, as well as round bowls out of Norfolk Pine, Star Pine, and other beautiful trees.
Creative Process: My natural edge bowls usually have the bark on them but some don't. One thing for sure is they are gnarly and all are one of a kind. Almost everyone I meet at art shows say they have never seen anything like my work before.

Additional artists participating in the Menlo Park Sidewalk Fine Arts Festival include Carina Mascarelli of Reno showing her contemporary realistic/impressionistic paintings inspired by nature; Scott Cilmi of San Rafael with his abstract paintings that create a sense of energy and spirit through color, composition, line and shape; and Lance Mackenzie of Sacramento displaying his unique, individually crafted designs from precision watch parts
