One night in the mid-'90s, Cypress Hill's B-Real heard Latino rappers Psycho Realm and thought they were so good that he asked to join the group, which he did for one album. This was at the height of Cypress Hill's popularity, so his presence gave the group a lot of attention. Similar to Cypress Hill, Psycho Realm spit straightforward verses over laid-back, weed-infused beats. But Psycho Realm have always been darker, and rap bluntly about the harsh life they knew growing up on the poor streets of LA (drugs, poverty, violence, political corruption). Sick Jacken, one half of original core duo, has been rapping solo this past decade after his partner Big Duke was shot and paralyzed from the neck down. He brings the same intense lyrics and West Coast beats to his solo work. (Amulya Datla)
