Shy Girls
Vocalist and producer Dan Vidmar, a.k.a Shy Girls, first came to attention in 2013 with his slow burning, sax-tinged single "Under Attack." In the fall of 2013 he released his first EP, Timeshare, with boutique label Hit City USA, which featured seductive electronic pop jams such as "Second Heartbeat." Shy Girls quickly started garnering attention and acclaim from an array of artists, producers and tastemakers. Vidmar has since collaborated with dance music heavyweights like Cyril Hahn, ODESZA and Jagwar Ma. He's also toured clubs across the country in support of artists such as HAIM, Little Dragon and Grammy award-winning R&B singer Maxwell. In winter of 2015, Vidmar self-released a mixtape,4WZ, featuring his favorite collaborators in the realms of R&B and hip-hop (Tei Shi, Rome Fortune, Antwon and Junglepussy).
Vidmar returns with "I Am Only A Man," an electrifying piece of cinematic avant-soul. The single offers a 4:10 glimpse into the next evolution of Shy Girls' material, much of which takes a detour towards the progressive. Crash cymbals, detuned pianos, guitar jams, and modulated passages mark a clear evolution from Vidmar's previous material. Shy Girls' newest body of work is as-of-yet unnamed but is expected to be released in 2016.
Shy Girls, née Dan Vidmar, is a vocalist / producer out of Portland, OR. Vidmar spent the last several years working nights at an emergency room, returning home in the pre-dawn hours to craft a unique breed of soulful future-pop. What began as a bedroom recording project became an all-consuming passion for Vidmar, who took a leap of faith and decided to turn down his acceptance to medical school and focus on Shy Girls full time.
Since then, Vidmar has begun churning out seductive pop hooks with a dark edge in full force. His bold productions are influenced by boundary-pushing club music and eccentric hip-hop, yet are grounded by his heartrending R&B vocals which exude a deep authenticity.
After releasing his first EP, Timeshare, with LA tastemaker label Hit City USA in the fall of 2013, Shy Girls quickly started garnering attention from an array of artists and producers. If you're not familiar, Canadian-Ghanian artist AKUA toured the world with Solange on the back of her debut EP One's Company, and following the untimely death of her father due to cancer. After years of performing on some of the world's biggest stages, she realized that she'd never properly-tended to her grief. With her boldly-beautiful debut album Them Spirits, she explores the experience of loss from all sides, chronicling the crippling and generative intensity of grief in music that is celestial, soaring, and honest.
