New York’s preeminent underground funk and soul outfit is back! Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings’ newest album “Naturally” (Daptone Records) is winning critical acclaim all over and is laced with the powerhouse vocal stylings of Ms.Jones. Her raspy, sultry, dynamic voice is backed by a crack outfit of funk players, (some who also perform with Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, Sugarman 3, and Whitfield Brothers). Capturing the authentic late 60’s soul sound both in studio and in live performance, Sharon Jones makes it all come together in one sexy and funky jam that goes from fast paced shuffle to moving soul ballads in just one shake.

Born and raised in James Brown’s hometown of Augusta, Georgia Ms. Jones has been dubbed the “New Queen of Funk” by many of her fans. Like many great soul singers, Ms. Jones started singing at a young age in the church choir and has gone on to record and perform with the Four Tops, Maceo Parker, and The Drifters (to name a few). That pedigree has ceryainly shone through in her style, which can be best compared to the true funky divas of the 70’s – names like Lyn Collins, Vicki Anderson, Carla Thomas, and Camille Yarborough.
