Who would have thought a burger joint could be a command center for commie spies? (I’ll have that medium rare with a side of microfilm.) But then again, this deliriously trashy espionage flick is all Cold War and hot stoves. Lee Marvin plays Slob, a short-order cook who can’t. Keenan Wynn plays George, owner of the seaside beanery and handy with a harpoon. Just down the beach is a missile site, so sooner or later top-secret scientists blow in looking for their fix of trans-fat. This by-the-pants paranoid pic generates enough laughable lunacy to make your patty melt.
Plus Surprise Short!
• Written by Edward and Mildred Dein. Photographed by Floyd Crosby. With Lee Marvin, Terry Moore, Frank Lovejoy, Keenan Wynn. (80 mins, B&W, 16mm, BAM/PFA Collection)
