About the Honoree Patti Austin
From her start as a four-year-old prodigy on Harlem's Apollo Theater stage at the urging of vocal legend Dinah Washington and her years as an in-demand session singer, to her life as an R&B hit maker and her recent salute to Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, Patti Austin is an American original. A GRAMMY-winning artist who has recorded 20 superlative albums over her five-decade career, she has collaborated with a staggering list of modern masters including James Brown, Joe Cocker, Diana Ross, James Ingram, Paul Simon, Roberta Flack, and her godfather, Quincy Jones.
