This April we celebrate the marriage of jazz and the spoken word and embrace the next generation of poets. Some of the most dynamic programming at SFJAZZ not only happens on our stages, but in schools and communities throughout the Bay Area, and this special performance will provide families with a glimpse at some of this compelling work. Join guitarist, producer and educator Terrence Brewer with his excellent Quartet alongside some of the most exciting young poets and mentors from our partners at Youth Speaks for an interactive and inspiring morning of jazz and poetry!
Both fun and educational, Family Matinees provide a window into the exciting world of live jazz. Each one-hour matinee features live performance, audience participation, Q&A and amazing music. Our interactive Family Workshops follow select performances and are FREE to matinee ticket-holders. Enjoyed individually or as a series, these Family Matinees and Workshops will change the way you hear jazz and get families playing together.
Following the performance, join us in the Joe Henderson Lab for an interactive experience with Orff percussion instruments with Bay Area educator and author Doug Goodkin. This Family Workshop is free to matinee ticket-holders; sign-ups take place in the lobby prior to the show and space is limited.
A limited number of free tickets are available to low-income Bay Area school or community groups. If you are interested in bringing your school or community group to a Family Matinee, please fill out our ticket request form:
