Theme: Transitions

People who are in scary places fear change. For disabled people with AIDS change too often means loss: losing our homes, losing our friends, losing our health insurance, losing our sight, our energy, our sex appeal, our meaning and relevance. It means decline. This is because we have lost hope. We are in the Den of the Undead, waiting to die. Change = Death. This is the mindspace of an overwhelming number of my people.

We must reinvent change. This year's theme: TRANSITIONS implies willful change. Leading the change. Being in the drivers seat of life. We will use our calendar to inspire people to make changes in their personal lives to overcome obstacles and to get to a better space. To live a powerful life. To live with Hope. To rise up and take life. To no longer live in the shadows with the shadow people. To grab the spotlight and make it shine on you. To shout to the world "I Am Worthy". To show the world just how miraculous we are.

To be disabled. To be poor. To have AIDS. To be outside the gender norm. To be everything that is hated and scorned and to still be FABULOUS.

TRANSITIONS is to take the cross of oppression we've been bearing, to turn it upside down and use it as our stage.
