Seeing Red: Consciousness and Color

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Come join us for an evening of music, philosophy, and drink!

Color is one of the longstanding puzzles in philosophy. Its exploration opens up a perspective on the nature of consciousness itself. Is color real? Is it a property of things? Is it only in our minds?

Explore our relationship to the world and to our senses with a leading philosopher of perception, Dr. Mazviita Chirimuuta. Color will be the microcosm in which we discover the essence of experience.

We'll start with the color red, a hue that promises ripe fruit, inflames passions, communicates power, awakens our sense of mortality, and more. What is this redness that stirs us so much? Where is it?

** We ask that all audience members wear as much RED as they can for the event!

Doors open at 7pm. The Aella Trio (comprised of violin, viola, and cello) will perform between 7 - 8pm, and The Lost Church has a donation bar with beer, wine, juices, coconut water, sparking water, and tea. The conversation with Dr. Chirimuuta begins at 8pm.

Speaker: Dr. Mazviita Chirimuuta - Professor, University of Pittsburgh, Department of History and Philosophy of Science, author of Outside Color: Perceptual Science and the Puzzle of Color in Philosophy (MIT Press), in conversation with Jeff Nova, Chief Executive Officer of Colorhythm and Director of the Colorhythm Institute
