Scratchdog Stringband Album Release!

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Revolution Cafe (see times)
Scratchdog Stringband is thrilled to announce the release of their first full-length album, “Three Times Fast,” which will be accompanied by a two-week tour of the west coast with their good friends, The Desert Kind. The third stop is Revolution Café (3248 22nd St., San Francisco, CA). The show is Friday, May 6 from 5-8:30. It's a free show!

Since 2015, Scratchdog Stringband has become the Pacific Northwest’s favorite new Americana/Rockgrass act. Based in Portland, this acoustic trio delivers a fresh amalgamation of classic and contemporary American music. These artisans continually hone their technical finesse through exuberant experimentation and intuitive improvisation, and the sound that emerges is uniquely "Scratchdog," deriving from influences in Rock, Folk, Country and Jazz.

The greater Portland area (and indeed the West Coast and beyond) has been eagerly awaiting the release of this completely original album, “Three Times Fast.” The Scratchdogs are proud to present a comprehensive portrayal of more than a year’s worth of touring, writing and rocking their inimitable, unprecedented sound. The ingredients are thumping upright bass, searing soaring fiddle, snare-drum rhythm guitar, as well as tenor banjo, harmonica, mandolin and three very individual voices.

The sound of The Desert Kind resonates in the rising mountains and twisting roads of the Pacific Northwest, echoing emotional struggles and passions penned by artists like Woody Guthrie and Roy Harper. A blend of Americana Country and Folk ballads, Chris Bigley's lyrics emerge from a root that is common to all people but remains unnoticed until it is given the grace of poetic verse. This divergence of poetry and universality creates a sound that is both familiar and challenging in the direction it forges.

"Scratchdog Stringband evokes the heart-and-soul of legendary stringbands. Dedicated to the craft, "contemporary cool" but with an incisive rearview mirror, these three top it off with fantastic vocal prowess that sets listeners back on their heels. I have been watching and waiting years for the next smokin' hot acoustic string ensemble to emerge... and Scratchdog Stringband is it!" - Lisa Lepine ProMotion Queen, Creative Consultant, Portland, OR

"Scratchdog Stringband is consistently excellent. If everyone who plays music brought this level of dedication and craftsmanship for the love of fun, all doubt that music could save the world would spontaneously evaporate and the world's military powers would bear no grudge as they danced enraptured on dance floor altars erected over the ruins of their de-funded death factories." - Steve Hunter, Bombs Away Cafe, Corvallis, OR
