San Francisco’s favorite historic German restaurant, Schroeder’s, celebrates the 183rd Oktoberfest – the largest beer festival in the world – with a grand Oktoberfest celebration. The celebration kicks off with an over-the-top block party on September 16. Founded in 1893, the establishment has a long history of hosting Oktoberfest with authentic Bavarian flair.
Schroeder’s Oktoberfest kick off boasts an elaborate celebration closing down all of Front Street beginning at 3 p.m. Hundreds of revelers join for an outdoor Bavarian beer hall featuring benches and communal tables for outdoor dining to set the stage for dancing, brews and traditional German fare alongside Hofbräu activities, including stein holding contests, Polka dancing and the traditional Danish “chicken dance.” Brats, chicken sausage and pretzels will be available for $5 and $10 through a token system. Admission is free. This is a 21 and over event. Lederhosen and dirndls are encouraged. September 16, 3- 8 p.m. – music by Polkalicious begins at 5 p.m.The official after party will continue inside Schroeder's with DJ Jerry Ross.
The party moves indoors for the next five consecutive Saturdays. Doors open at 5 p.m. with music from 6-9 p.m. A full menu will also be available.
