The lore of Beast Mode continues to grow with Marshawn Lynch's latest creation. The name of his newest venture is a tribute to his friend, Robert Benjamin, who shot and killed down in 2007. And that's just the beginning of Lynch's connection to his native Oakland. He purchased the venue, Scend's, from Cassie Nickelson, who was retiring. But the two had a relationship that went back years.
Once Lynch completed the purchase, he went to work remodeling, turning the venue into a modern Soul Food / BBQ joint. The restaurant is also noteworthy for encouraged people to stay off their cell phones while eating together - on the table there are signs that say No Phone Zone.
