This October 15 and 16, the 8th Annual San Francisco TROLLEY DANCES takes audiences from the Civic Center’s San Francisco Public Library to the storied West Portal Muni Station. TROLLEY DANCES 2011 features an extraordinary lineup of Bay Area dance luminaries performing outdoor, site-specific work.
Performance tours, led by “tour guides,” start at the Main Library, board the K, L, or M Muni/Metro, head underground, and emerge at the West Portal Muni Station, with performances along the way.
ODC/Dance launches this fall’s urban dance/public transit adventure at the San Francisco Main Library with a premiere by Co-artistic Director KT Nelson. Also featured are critically acclaimed Sweet Can Circus and 2011 Bay Area Dance Troupe Competition winner, Salsamania, Jodi Lomask’s Capacitor, Tat Wong Kung Fu Lion Dancers, and Epiphany Productions Sonic Dance Theater.
Audience members, who pay the $2 Muni fare or have a fast pass, can take the full tour, or see one or two events at their own discretion. All performances are also accessible at no cost for the casual passerby. Bicyclists can make use of a do-it-yourself-bike route map to each location, available at the event’s starting point.
Guided performance tours start at the San Francisco Main Library every 45 minutes beginning at 11 a.m. and take 1-1/2 hours to complete. The last tour leaves at 2:45 PM. For wheelchair accessibility please arrive for the 11:00 AM tour on Saturday and Sunday, still a first come first serve basis.
This celebrated San Francisco event offers families, dance-lovers, visitors and residents alike the opportunity to discover the city’s many-faceted beauty, and to see the Bay Area’s finest dance companies perform in San Francisco’s finest venue – the city itself.
