JEFF is pleased to present San Francisco Impressions a two person show with local artists Michael Murphy and Kristine McCallister. Artist Michael Murphy will be present at the opening reception on Friday, Nov 1 from 7-10pm. The exhibition will run through Dec 31, 2013.
Murphy, whose work has been featured as part of the SFMOMA Artists’ Series, will present a set of giclee prints that provide a fresh and exuberant look at the city’s rich, yet often over-looked Modernist gems from such design visionaries as Joseph Eichler, Richard Neutra and Erich Mendelsohn. Vibrant and graphically bold, Murphy’s images are stylized compositions of the San Francisco cityscape infused with the spirit of ’60s era travel posters. An architect by trade, Murphy’s pieces are drafted utilizing a CAD program much like any of his architectural projects.
Also on display will be works from McCallister, who in the span of a 20-year career in the contemporary art world has garnered multiple solo exhibitions in galleries both stateside and abroad. Working primarily in gouache, McCallister often paints en plain aire—capturing the visual landscape of the city while perched on the rooftop of her Russian Hill apartment or while gently rocking on the deck of the Balclutha, Eureka and CA Thayer on the docks of Hyde Street Pier.
