| Description See the world on one stage at the internationally renowned San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival, now entering its 28th season. Unique in the United States, the Festival has been a major force in making the Bay Area the epicenter of ethnic dance in the country. This year, thirty one Bay Area companies representing dance traditions from more than 20 cultures around the globe will perform over three weekends, featuring a different roster each weekend. For sheer beauty, energy and breadth, nothing surpasses this annual dance celebration.
This year¹s theme is Intersections: Time, Place, and Spirit. The first weekend offers Intersections of the past, present, and future, exploring the interlocking rhythms of history. Dances will highlight aspects of how cultures and dance traditions are passed on, and stay vital through generations, intertwined with the changing times. The second weekend explores the importance of Place and the role of dance in maintaining and expressing culture and identity. Dances focus on what makes a place sacred, what is the sense of home and homeland, and how dance transcends borders and geographic and political boundaries. The third weekend honors the Spirits of the dance, land, and people by exploring dance that lives at intersections of the human and spirit worlds. Performances highlight the endurance and adaptability of the human spirit, enlivening cultural traditions, across time and space, amid life in the modern world. Come to one show or see all three, but don¹t miss the opportunity to enjoy some of the most extraordinary ethnic dance ensembles in Northern California.
