On April 26-28, SmartThings will be hosting a three day track during the Samsung Developers Conference — providing developers everything needed to start building SmartApps on our open platform for connected devices. Serving both new and veteran IoT developers alike, SmartThings’ SDC track includes a hands-on workshop, developer and partner panels, in-depth sessions on developer tools, best practices, and opportunities — plus your own dev hack lounge and pavilion. April 26, 2:00-5:30pm — Workshop: Introduction to the SmartThings Platform: Get started building your first SmartApp with hands-on coding and guidance from SmartThings developer advocates. Bring your laptop, curiosity, and Groovy skills! (1st floor, Moscone West)

April 27, 9:30-11:00am — Keynote Appearance: SmartThings CEO Alex Hawkinson will be featured at the main SDC keynote. Be first to know about what’s on the horizon for SmartThings. (3rd floor main stage, Moscone West)

April 27, 11:30am-5:00pm & April 28, 1:30am-3:30pm — SmartThings Booth & Pavilion: Featuring a developer innovations corner, dev hack lounge, products, and a device integration wall, our SmartThings booth has everything for new and veteran IoT developers alike. The adjoining Partner Pavilion will feature products and solutions from some of our key SmartThings partners, including ADT, Honeywell, LifX, Philips, and Yale. Relax and network in our dev hack lounge, and sample some of our SmartThings tschotskes. (3rd floor, Moscone West)

April 27, 1:00-6:00pm — SmartThings Sessions:

Series of five 45 minute sessions introducing developers to SmartThings’ vision, underlying technology, and developer opportunities. (SmartThings Booth, 3rd floor, Moscone West)

SmartThings Vision, Direction and Developer Opportunities — 1pm: SmartThings CEO Alex Hawkinson and Chief Platform Officer Dora Hsu open the SmartThings sessions with an overview of our platform’s vision and strategic direction, highlighting opportunities for developers to improve people’s lives through SmartThings.

Welcome to SmartThings — 2pm: SmartThings CTO Jeff Hagins gives attendees inside insights into SmartApps and Device Type Handler architecture — crucial knowledge for optimizing development on the SmartThings platform.

Advanced Software Development for IoT — 3pm: Join us for a deep dive into SmartApp development tools, with Tips, Tricks, and Best Practices to turbo-charge SmartApp projects.
Web Services SmartApps — 4pm: This session will cover how Web Services for SmartApps work, along with design, concepts, and end user experience. You’ll also get an introduction to the SmartThings Developer API.

SmartThings Partner Panel — 5pm: Come and learn about innovative and exciting SmartThings solutions created by our partners, including Arthur Orduña of ADT, Kris Davies of Amazon Dash, Leslie Drewery of Breezie, Michael Deschamps of Phillips, and Ken Kraus of Yale Locks.

April 28, 12:30-4:15pm — SmartThings Sessions:

On day two of our sessions, we dive deeper into development tools while exchanging ideas with fellow developers. (SmartThings Booth, 3rd floor, Moscone West)

“How Might We…” — 12:30pm: Brainstorm in teams of fellow attendees, dreaming up “What ifs” and a few “No way, really?” ideas for future SmartThings solutions.

SmartThings Developer Panel — 1:30pm: Lively interactive panel of SmartThings developers who’ll showcase their SmartApps and share their experiences developing them.

How do I add hardware devices to the SmartThings Platform? — 2:30pm: Closing out our sessions with hands-on instruction, see how SmartThings identifies devices on our platform, then learn command and Parse methods to control them.
