Title: Royal Production Company Presents: Worry & The Animals
Artist: Amber Cady
Residency Dates: July 15 - August 4, 2016
Pop Up Narrative Special Event: Thursday, July 28, 7:00 – 9:00pm
Gallery Hours During Residency: Saturday, July 23, 12:00 - 5:00pm
Oakland, CA -- June 29, 2016. This summer Royal NoneSuch Gallery, with the support of an Alternative Exposure grant, has transformed into Royal Production Company (RPC). Four artists/collaboratives have been selected to create new video works using the gallery as a site of production during a three week residency: Bonanza, Amber Cady, Carolyn Janssen and Kate Rhoades. During the residencies each artist/collaborative will have public gallery hours and a special event. The residencies will culminate in a red carpet screening on September 16th where we’ll bring the bling. After the premiere, the videos will continue to screen during regular gallery hours through early October.
Third in the RPC lineup is Amber Cady whose project Worry & The Animals will center on our deepest worries and fears––rejection, isolation, dependence––the kinds that keep us up at night or preoccupies our attention during the day. Often paralyzing, these fears prevent us from experiencing the world and ourselves as we would like. Worry & The Animals aims to explore these narratives, fraught with complex and painful feelings. Through interviews, workshops, and activities, participants will unpack the challenges, characters, and themes at the core of their anxiety, ultimately transforming their stories into triumphant narratives that lay fear and shame to rest.
As part of her residency Cady will host Pop Up Narrative, a special event in conjunction with Worry & The Animals. At the event, participants will explore narrative structure and affective communication by co-creating short form fiction for film through experimental and performative actions.
