"Rodeo" & "Ships and Salsa"

SEE EVENT DETAILS
NYC-based dance company, UNA Projects announces the tour of Ships and Salsa and world premiere of Rodeo, for a double-program weekend co-presented with ODC Theater, October 1-3, 2015. Artistic Director and Founder of UNA Projects, Chuck Wilt, returns to his native dance community with an enriched voice. October 1, Program A presents the world premiere of Rodeo with choreography by Bobbi Jene Smith and Chuck Wilt. October 2-3, Program B presents Ships and Salsa with choreography by Chuck Wilt.

UNA promises a dynamic evening of work, constantly evolving with rhythm, expression, and physicality. Rodeo is a playful expression of the self, by dressing up or removing layers. Ships is a study on being alone, exploring themes of the sea, while Salsa journeys through a collection of short stories. Each program offers audience members the opportunity to be surprised by surreal notions, and to relate to personable themes.

Similar to a conversation, the choreography is generated in a string of reactions, creating little lived in situations, side-by-side. Chuck Wilt draws inspiration from the film world, humor, love and sensitivity to presence. His movement draws from qualities of fluidity, sensuality, explosive power, innate groove and imagination.

The company’s work is bold, physical, and emotionally layered. UNA has a fresh, unique, and acclaimed group of dancers, which greatly inspire the work. With the ability to bring their own artistic voices to the work, UNA Projects creates a platform for dancers to be pushed to new ends, to take risks, and to always dig deeper to find more love and joy in their dancing.
