“…a real talent.†– NPR
The most exciting star in today's Cuban music scene, Roberto Fonseca won worldwide recognition when he replaced the late Rubén Gozalez as pianist with the famed Buena Vista Social Club. He ended up becoming the star of the show. An innovative and charismatic player, Fonseca takes traditional African, Brazilian and Cuban music alongside a vibrant, panoramic mix of whistle-able tunes and euphoric improvising. From his debut performance at the Havana Jazz Festival at the age of 15 to his recently released CD YO, Fonseca has collaborated with the likes of Ibrahim Ferrer, Bebo and Chucho Valdes and Omara Portuondo (whose album with Fonseca won a Latin Grammy). Recognized as a major influence on modern Cuban music, Fonseca proves that jazz is an ever-evolving art form.
