WHAT:
Shatterproof is staging a bold fund-raising event to draw attention to the national epidemic of drug and alcohol addiction.
Approximately 50 individuals will rappel 26 stories down the San Jose Marriott to raise vital funds to prevent and treat addiction, raise awareness and breakdown stigma. Participants will include relatives of young adults who have died due to addiction as well as local residents and hotel employees who want to affect change regarding the nation's leading health problem.
San Jose is the site of Shatterproof's inaugural "Rise Above Addiction" event. Next year, the organization plans to hold similar events in 30 cities around the country.
