Rex Foundation Benefit: Steve Kimock's Tribute to Jerry Garcia

SEE EVENT DETAILS
About Steve Kimock & Friends: After playing a series of East Coast shows earlier this year to rave reviews, noted guitarist Steve Kimock, along with Jeff Chimenti, Jay Lane, and Bobby Vega, will bring their Tribute to Jerry Garcia to the Fillmore in their only San Francisco appearance to date. The ensemble pays tribute to Jerry Garcia’s solo work, including his collaborations with Merl Saunders and the various incarnations of the Jerry Garcia Band. The Tribute also honors some of the influences Steve shares with Jerry, including such legendary artists as Roy Buchanan, Freddie King, BB King, and Mike Bloomfield.

About David Bromberg: Known for his quirky, humorous lyrics, and the ability to play rhythm and lead guitar at the same time, Grammy-nominated, singer/songwriter/multi-instrumental wizard David Bromberg will perform a short solo set to open the evening and will be sitting in with Steve Kimock. Bromberg shared numerous connections with Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead, frequently crossing musical paths over the years. He’s also played with Jerry Jeff Walker, Willie Nelson, Jorma Kaukonen, Rusty Evans (The Deep) and Bob Dylan. He co-wrote the song "The Holdup" with former Beatle George Harrison, who played on Bromberg's self-titled 1972 album.

About Rex Foundation: In the fall of 1983, the Rex Foundation was established as a non-profit charitable organization by members of the Grateful Dead, their friends, and families, to further the band’s long-established tradition of generosity. Supporting programs that might otherwise be overlooked by mainstream funders, the Rex Foundation offers unsolicited small grants to organizations whose work advances its mission to "help secure a healthy environment, promote individuality in the arts, provide support to critical and necessary social services, assist others less fortunate than ourselves, protect the rights of indigenous people and ensure their cultural survival, build a stronger community, and educate children and adults everywhere." Since 1984 the Rex Foundation has granted $9.3 million to over 1,300 recipients.
