Empty Rockets by Georgianna Krieger is a whimsical calypso tune about the triumph of peace over conflict. Contingency Plans by Laura Austin Wiley was inspired by Wayne Shorter's popular jazz tune, Footprints. Laura comments: “It’s a modal tune about what we do when the plans in life don't work out the way they are supposed to. It's about resilience, growth and recovery.” Valentines Walz by Michèle Walther was written on Valentine's Day for her husband Ronnie, which she describes as a “piece with a playful character, like my husband's”. Bandleader Stephen McQuarry introduces his new jazz originals and arrangements of tunes with summer’s spirited and languorous tempos for this concert.
