Regina Carter's Southern Comfort at the Nourse Theater

SEE EVENT DETAILS
The Homeless Prenatal Program (HPP) is proud to present a benefit concert by Regina Carter at San Francisco’s historic Nourse Auditorium

Regina Carter is a jazz violinist, many times lauded for her clear, original sound and her exploration of the American musical heritage. Carter pulls from a diversity of traditions, incorporating Motown, R&B, swing and African folk songs into her solo work. Her continuous experimentation together with her mastery of form has led her to work with musicians ranging from Aretha Franklin to Dolly Parton to Mary J. Blige.

Carter released her self-titled solo album in 1995, followed by Something for Grace, an album dedicated to her mother. Since then, she’s released seven more albums. Southern Comfort is her most recent – and very celebrated – release. Through this collection, Carter investigates her family history and reconnects with the folk tunes that her paternal grandfather, a coalminer, would have heard as he worked in Alabama. Southern Comfort is blend of folk songs and spirituals through which Carter guides the listener on a journey – musically and historically.

Regina Carter is known for her original sound and her exploration of the American musical heritage. A two-time Grammy Nominee, Carter’s achievements are extensive and include a MacArthur Foundation “Genius” Fellowship and nine critically acclaimed albums.

The Nourse Auditorium in San Francisco is a 1,600-seat venue and tickets will be sold through City Box Office. All proceeds from HPP’s An Evening of Community & Celebration will benefit our programs, services and their recipients.

“A talented, charismatic player who is almost single-handedly reviving interest in the violin as a jazz instrument.” The Los Angeles Times
