In four short years, the pioneering Brooklyn Bhangra party juggernaut Red Baraat have made a name for themselves as one of the best live bands playing anywhere in the world. Led by dhol (an Indian percussion instrument) drummer Sunny Jain, the eight-piece (dhol, drumset, percussion, sousaphone, and a four-horn section) band melds the infectious North Indian Bhangra rhythm with a host of sounds, from DC-inspired go-go, to jazz and funk. They are currently supporting their 2013 album Shruggy Ji, an album that prompted NPR to dub them “the best party band in years.â€
