After earning four Lone Star Music awards for their 2011 release, Good Luck & True Love — not to mention a trip to the Grammy Awards for its Best Recording Package nomination — Austin’s Reckless Kelly return with their eighth studio album, Long Night Moon, releasing Sept. 3, 2013 on their own No Big Deal Records label.
The trio of lead singer / rhythm guitarist / songwriter Willy Braun, his fiddler /mandolinist / harp player / harmony vocalist brother Cody and lead guitarist David Abeyta once again share production credit. Legendary steel guitar player Lloyd Maines, keyboardist Bukka Allen and dobro player Jeff Plankenhorn also contribute. Long Night Moon was mixed by Ray Kennedy, best known for his work with Reckless Kelly fan Steve Earle.
Featured tracks include the singles “The Last Goodbye,” hitting radio in August, “The Girl I Knew” and “Be My Friend (In Real Life).” All carry elements of the spirited roots-rock style that sent three singles from Good Luck & True Love to No. 1 on the Texas Music Chart.
In addition to the CD and digital versions, a limited-edition, 180-gram vinyl audiophile double-disc set also will be released — of course featuring splendid Backstage Design Studios artwork by sisters Sarah and Shauna Dodds, the ones responsible for that Grammy nomination.
In their 17 years together, Reckless Kelly have never lost their passion for delivering explosive live shows and making music that means something. Sometimes, it’s thought-provoking; sometimes it’s simply fun, but always, it’s real. And keeping it so has helped them cement their place in the pantheon of great Americana artists. With Long Night Moon, the Reckless Kelly tradition rides on.
