READY TO LEARN FUN FAIR

WHAT:
The Ready to Learn Fun Fair provides families with information about local community resources in the areas of education, nutrition, social services, exercise and the arts. In addition to musical performances and a clown show, the popular television character Clifford the Big Red Dog will be in attendance to promote reading as a fun activity. Entrance to the fair is FREE and all children will receive a complimentary book and dental kit.
Buki the Clown will provide entertainment along with a performance by Mixd Ingrdnts, Children will enjoy face painting, games designed for enhanced learning and interactive storytelling. Free raffles will be held throughout the day with prizes including tickets to museums, sports equipment, gift certificates to local shops, and much more.

Families with children birth to 5 years old are especially encouraged to attend this free event. Children of all ages are welcome.
The event is sponsored by Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson, KQED, First 5 Every Child Counts, African-American Regional Education Alliance. In-kind donations provided by The Children’s Book Project, Lake Shore Learning and Cliff Bar.
WHY:
Preparing children to become socially, emotionally, and academically ready to learn is the gateway to success. Many families lack access to affordable, high-quality early childhood education programs. According to the U.S. Census, as of 2009, only 65.3% percent of all 3, 4 and 5 year-olds are enrolled in pre-school programs. According to the National Institute for Early Education Research, children in early education programs are more likely to graduate from high school and become productive members of their communities. They are also less likely to have children during their teenage years or become involved in the criminal justice system.
