JR Bechtle, born 1943 in Germany, grew up in a small village on the Rhine River. He received a PhD in law from the University in Munich and moved to the US in 1971.

Hotel van Gogh , a suspenseful novel referencing the lives of two driven artists and touching on a number of relevant contemporary issues.

On July 29, 1890 Vincent van Gogh dies in Auvers-sur-Oise outside of Paris. On July 17, 2003 the unsuccessful author Arthur Heller is found dead in the same room where van Gogh killed himself. That same morning the French anti-terror police raid an Iranian terrorist cell in Auvers-sur –Oise. These events set the stage for the events in Hotel van Gogh.
